SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau will begin the final event of the 2021/22 PGA Tour season at four-under-par, six shots behind the world number one, and leading FedEx Cup points holder Scottie Scheffler.

The Tour Championship

The Tour Championship acts as the final event on the PGA Tour calendar every year. This year, the 30 players in the field will compete for the first-place prize of $18 million from a purse of $75 million. It is the largest purse and first place prize on the PGA Tour every season.

The starting scores are set based on the FedEx Cup standings, in which Finau currently sits in the eighth position. Finau’s best finish in the FedEx Cup standings occurred in the 2017/18 season when he ended the year at sixth. With a good finish this week, Finau could jump ahead of his previous best finish.

Prior to last week, Finau was listed fifth in the standings, but a disappointing start at the BMW Championship dropped Finau three spots to number eight. Nevertheless, Finau could still make history this weekend at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, assuming he puts together a promising week.

Finau will begin the week on Thursday playing alongside Sepp Straka. They will tee off at 11:35 a.m. off the first tee.

The field will begin the event on Thursday with Scheffler leading at 10-under-par. The remaining field is as follows:

Patrick Cantlay (-8)
Will Zalatoris (-7) will not participate due to a back injury.
Xander Schauffele (-6)
Sam Burns (-5)
Finau, Cam Smith, Rory Mcllroy, Sepp Straka, and Sunjae Im (-4)
Jon Rahm, Scott Stallings, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, and Mathew Fitzpatrick (-3)
Max Homa, Hideki Matsuyama, Jordan Spieth, Joaquin Niemann, Viktor Hovland (-2)
Collin Morikawa, Billy Horschel, Tom Hoge, Corey Conners, and Brian Harman (-1)
K.H. Lee, J.T Poston, Sahith Seegala, Adam Scott, and Aaron Wise (even)

Tony Finau Looking To Finish Strong

Finau has endured a breakout year on the PGA Tour in 2022. It is the first time in his career that he has secured multiple PGA Tour victories, ironically, they came in back-to-back weeks when he won the 3M Open before reigning supreme at the Rocket Mortgage Classic the following week.

The two PGA Tour wins added to Finau’s tally which now stands at four professional victories. Previously, Finau won the Puerto Rico Open in 2016 and the Northern Trust in 2021.

Furthermore, Finau was recently announced as a member of the upcoming USA Presidents Cup team. It is the fourth consecutive international competition in which Finau will represent the United States and the first international event in which Finau qualified via points and not a captain’s selection.
