SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson will play for the Philippines at the World Cup Qualifiers according to a report from Sportando.

Clarkson is expected to play in two games for the Philippines at the end of this month.

“Utah Jazz Filipino-American guard Jordan Clarkson will play for (the Philippines) in the upcoming FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers,” Sportando reported.

The Jazz guard, who identifies as Filipino-American, is one of only two current NBA players with Filipino heritage and last played for the national team at the 2018 Asian Games.

Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green is also of Filipino descent.

Clarkson’s grandmother was born in Manila where the former Sixth Man of the Year has become a national hero.

The Philipinnes will take on Lebanon on August 25 at the Nouhad Nawfal Sports Complex in Beirut, the Lebanese capital city.

On August 29, the Philipinnes will host Saudi Arabia at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.

Clarkson’s Future Uncertain In Utah

Like most players on the current Jazz roster, Clarkson’s future with the team is uncertain.

After trading Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves last month the Jazz have been actively shopping All-Star guard Donovan Mithell in a deal that would initiate a full rebuild for the franchise.

Those moves would signal the end of several veterans’ tenure on the Jazz roster including Clarkson who is entering the final guaranteed season of his contract.

Clarkson has become a fan favorite in Utah since he arrived on December 23, 2019. The Cleveland Cavaliers traded Clarkson to the Jazz in exchange for Dante Exum and two future second-round picks.

The guard has averaged 17.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists over his last two seasons with the Jazz. Last summer, Clarkson became the first player in Jazz history to take home Sixth Man of the Year honors.
