A 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive tackle from Spokane, Washington, Barrington started in six games during his first full year in the BYU football program.
Barrington was a three-star recruit in the class of 2018. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling at BYU. He then greyshirted and began his career with the BYU football program.
Barrington was part of a BYU offensive line that blocked for the single-season rushing leader in BYU’s history in Tyler Allgeier.
The FWAA Freshman All-American team has been in effect since 2001. Barrington is the eighth player from the BYU program named a Freshman All-American. He’s the fourth to receive the honor during the Kalani Sitake era (since 2016).
“This was among the most competitive FWAA Freshman All-American Team selection to date, on account of COVID-19 eligibility allowances adding to the pool of players eligible to make the team,” said Mike Griffith, chair of the 2021 Freshman All-America Committee. “The talented group of young men who made this team are also to be applauded for their perseverance, as well as their performances, amid the unprecedented circumstances of these times in collegiate athletics.”
Barrington comes from a family of high-level athletes. Campbell’s older brother, Clark, is a starting guard on the BYU football team and his mother and father were Division I athletes at the University of Arizona.
Barrington and the rest of the BYU football program return to the gridiron for spring practices beginning February 28.
