Tyler Allgeier Breaks BYU Single Season Rushing Record

PROVO, Utah – BYU running back Tyler Allgeier passed Luke Staley for the single season rushing record on his 20th carry against UAB.

Luke Staley held the single season record for 20 seasons when he rushed for 1,582 yards back in 2001.

He went on to win the Doak Walker award that season for the country’s best running back.

Allgeier didn’t win that award, but he now holds the record for the most rushing yards in a single season by a Cougar running back.

Only Staley and Allgeier have rushed for 1,500 yards in a single season.

Several records were broken by Allgeier in the bowl game against UAB.

Once a walk-on, Allgeier scored a touchdown in 11 consecutive games, breaking a record previously held by Mike Chronister.

In only his second season as the feature running back, Allgeier quickly rose up the career rushing ranks.

He passed Lakei Heimuli and Taysom Hill in career rush yards against UAB as well.

He’s now 5th all-time behind Jamal Willis.

Back-to-back double digit win seasons don’t come easy, and Tyler Allgeier is one of the biggest reasons BYU football has had so much success these past two seasons.
