SALT LAKE CITY – Former Real Salt Lake and Real Monarchs midfielder Justin Portillo have found a new home at New Mexico United in the USL Championship, he announced via social media over the weekend.

Portillo, 29, first joined the Real Monarchs in 2018 where he appeared in a total of 53 games. Following the 2019 USL season, Portillo was signed by the club’s first team Real Salt Lake where he appeared in 11 games.

Portillo’s option was not picked up following the 2021 season which explains his most recent move to New Mexico United.

The latest move marks the seventh professional club in which Portillo will sign for.

“Justin is a player who has the unique ability to control the rhythm and tempo of a game in possession. Combining this with his proven winning ability, we are excited to add Justin to our midfield group,” New Mexico United Manager and Technical Director Zach Prince said on the Portillo signing.
