PROVO, Utah – BYU athletics announced that BYU football head coach Kalani Sitake has received a contract extension. The extension keeps Sitake in charge of the BYU football program through the 2025 season.

“We are happy to sign Kalani to an extension that keeps him connected to BYU for years to come,” BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said. “This is about setting our student-athletes up for success. Kalani’s culture of love and learning has created an incredible environment for his student-athletes and Cougar Nation that we are all inspired by.”

The culture that Kalani Sitake has created within the BYU program goes beyond the field of play. Sitake’s Built4Life program was groundbreaking in the Name, Image, and Likeness space of college athletics. It gave his players the tools and opportunity for all athletes on Sitake’s roster to profit off this historic time in NIL.

Kalani Sitake will lead BYU football into the future

Recent on-the-field results have helped Sitake’s cause as well. Last season, BYU put together their best season in more than two decades, going 11-1 and finishing No. 11 in the final AP Top 25 poll. The highest final ranking since 1996.

Through his first years at BYU, Sitake has compiled a 38-26 record and has posted a 3-1 record in bowl games.

Sitake last received a contract extension in 2019 that was set to go through the 2023 season. This new extension tacks on another two years to his contract, making it clear he is BYU’s leader into the future.

“I really appreciate the support for BYU football from Tom Holmoe and President Worthen along with all of our administration at BYU,” Kalani Sitake said. “I am excited about the future of our program and committed to continue to do everything we can for the benefit of our great student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans.”

Back in November, during BYU’s magical 11-win season, former BYU star quarterback Zach Wilson quote tweeted a post about Sitake being named a Bear Bryant Award finalist from the Cougars’ official social media account with the message, “Extend this man!”

Sitake’s BYU program will take on the Arizona Wildcats to open the 2021 season in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. The kick-off is set for 8:30 p.m. (MT) on ESPN and KSL NewsRadio.
