PROVO, Utah – Coaches with BYU football ties are expected to join Ed Lamb’s staff at Northern Colorado.
ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported that BYU defensive ends coach Preston Hadley would be the defensive coordinator at UNC. It would be Hadley’s first defensive coordinator title in his football coaching career.

Hadley began coaching immediately after his playing days at BYU concluded in 2012. He started as a graduate assistant on Bronco Mendenhall’s staff at BYU from 2013 to 2014. Then he became a junior college assistant at Santa Ana College for a season. After that, he moved up to the FCS ranks, where he was a secondary coach and recruiting coordinator for two seasons at Weber State.
Since 2018, Hadley has been a member of Kalani Sitake’s BYU staff. He initially began as a safeties coach from 2018 to 2020. Then in 2021, he switched to the defensive ends, holding that role until midway through the 2022 season. After BYU lost to Arkansas in October, Kalani Sitake reassigned the staff, and Hadley coached the safeties for the remainder of the season.
Former BYU football analysts following Ed Lamb
Along with Hadley, Ed Lamb is reportedly bringing Blair Peterson as UNC’s offensive coordinator. Peterson was an offensive analyst that worked with BYU’s quarterbacks from 2019 to 2021. He assisted BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick in developing QBs Zach Wilson and Jaren Hall. This fall, Peterson was the offensive coordinator at Southern Utah.
Hadley is the latest defensive coach from the 2022 staff experiencing a brand new look. New defensive coordinator Jay Hill has only retained BYU cornerback coach Jernaro Gilford to be carried over onto his staff.
Ed Lamb has also brought along DJ Williams, a defensive graduate assistant for BYU this past season, to coach the cornerback position.
