Dallin Hall Hits Game-Winner As BYU Upsets No. 21 Creighton

SALT LAKE CITY – BYU shocked the college basketball world by knocking off No. 21 Creighton, 83-80 in Las Vegas. With 11 seconds left, freshman guard Dallin Hall tapped in a missed layup for the game-winning basket.

It was the second game-winning shot of Hall’s young BYU career.

The win improves BYU’s record to 6-5 overall on the year and Creighton drops to 6-4, losing their fourth consecutive game. Here’s a recap of how the game played out.

  • 16:25 – Creighton’s Trey Alexander gets a friendly bounce on a three from the wing. CU 7, BYU 6
  • 15:12 – Creighton’s Farabello hits a three after BYU turns the ball over for the fourth time. CU 10, BYU 6

  • 14:53 – Jaxson Robinson hits his first three of the night. BYU staying competitive at the first media timeout. CU 10, BYU 9
  • 13:35 – Creighton is starting to heat up as Baylor Schierman and Ryan Nembhard both hit threes. CU 16, BYU 11

  • 13:00 – Scheierman hits another three forcing Mark Pope to burn a timeout. CU 19, BYU 11
  • 12:15 – Robinson and Traore respond with a pair of field goals out of the timeout. CU 19, BYU 16

  • 11:41 – BYU is off to a strong start on the glass. The Cougars are outrebounding Creighton, 7-4. CU 21, BYU 16
  • 10:34 – Gideon George picks up his second personal foul. CU 23, BYU 18
  • 9:38 – BYU gets an offensive rebound; Jaxson Robinson gathers it and finds an open Rudi Williams for a three. CU 23, BYU 21

  • 8:20 – Noah Waterman knocks down a three after Creighton hit a three of their own. These two teams are shooting the ball at a high level. CU 27, BYU 26
  • 7:45 – Tie game at the under-eight media timeout. BYU 27, CU 27
  • 7:19 – Noah Waterman was called for a reach-in foul that negated an impressive block from Atiki Ally Atiki. CU 28, BYU 27

  • 3:59 – Dallin Hall sent an alley-oop to Atiki Ally Atiki. Atiki climbed the ladder to grab that and throw it down. BYU 40, CU 38
  • 2:36 – Arthur Kaluma returns to the action and he picks up his third foul. Rudi Williams then knocked down two free throws. BYU 44, CU 39
  • 1:18 – Fousseyni Traore gets fouled on a hook and knocks down the bucket for an and-one opportunity. BYU has built its game-high lead to eight points. BYU 49, CU 41
  • 1:07 – Francisco Farabello buried a three and was fouled by Dallin Hall on the shot. He had a chance at a four-point play and missed it. BYU 49, CU 44
  • 8.8 – Traore missed a hook. As Creighton was grabbing the rebound, Trey Stewart went over the back to cause a personal foul. The Bluejays made one of two free throws. BYU 49, CU 45

  • 15:47 – Creighton reels off an 8-0 run to tie up the game before the first media timeout of the half. BYU 56, CU 56
  • 15:32 – Baylor Schierman blocks Fousseyni Traore and it leads to a fastbreak for the Jays. Creighton coach Greg McDermott was fired up and gave a high five to the SDSU transfer. BYU 56, CU 56

  • 11.6 – Dallin Hall taps back a missed layup and gets BYU back in front. BYU 81, CU 80
