SALT LAKE CITY – FS1 commentator Petros Papadakis mistook the name of former BYU and current San Francisco 49ers star Fred Warner during the Cougars’ regular season finale against the Stanford Cardinal.

The Cardinal hosted the Cougars at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, November 26.

During the second quarter of the television broadcast, the former USC player and current college football analyst highlighted Warner’s visit with the BYU team the day prior to playing Stanford.

However, Papadakis accidentally called the All-Pro linebacker “Pete Warner” instead of “Fred Warner.”

Like the former BYU star, Pete Werner is a linebacker in the NFL, a standout player for the New Orleans Saints.

Shortly after the mistake, Papadakis apologized to “all the Warners” and corrected his mistake on the broadcast.

Despite the correction, football fans enjoyed tweeting about the error.

Warner and the Niners’ next game is at home against Werner and the Saints on Sunday, November 27 at 2:25 p.m. (MDT) on FOX.

BYU’s game against Stanford is broadcast on FS1, KSLSports.com, and KSL NewsRadio.

About Fred Warner

During his four seasons in Provo, the linebacker recorded 264 total tackles, 158 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, seven interceptions, 13 pass breakups, and two touchdowns.

Warner was selected by the Niners with the No. 70 overall pick during the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was selected to the Pro Bowl and honored as a first-team All-Pro in 2020.

During his five seasons in the league, Warner has recorded 579 total tackles, 377 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, three interceptions, 31 pass breakups, and one touchdown in 74 games played.

BYU vs. Stanford

There isn’t much on the line in this game. BYU, an FBS Independent, is 6-5 and has already clinched bowl eligibility. Stanford has navigated through another disappointing season as they enter the season finale at 3-8.

But despite this game not impacting the national landscape, it could be a matchup that provides some classic “Pac-12 After Dark” entertainment.

BYU comes into the matchup as winners of their past two games against Boise State and Utah Tech. Stanford is currently on a four-game losing streak and is in danger of a second consecutive 3-9 season.

A side note to this game that should be interesting to follow is the crowd. Stanford has been known to have poor showings in attendance numbers. Last month, Stanford offered a “free trial” to get more people into the stands. Don’t be surprised if a lot of BYU fans took advantage of that offer and scooped up tickets.
