Utah State quarterback Logan Bonner warms up prior to the Aggies game against UNLV at Maverik Stadium on September 24, 2022.

LOGAN, Utah – Despite his Utah State playing career ending thanks to a broken foot, Logan Bonner doesn’t believe his days playing football are behind him.

“I’m just trying to play as long as I can. I’m only kid once,” Bonner said while joining Hans & Scotty G. on the KSL Sports Zone earlier this week. “I know I can play. I just need one little shot and see if somebody gives me a chance. I’d love to come back here and coach but right now I’m just trying to play as long as I can.”

Bonner broke the same foot that slowed his transition to USU prior to the 2021 season on the last drive of the game against UNLV back on September 24 in a 34-24 loss.

“As soon as it happened, I heard it snap, I knew it broke. It was the last play and I talked to the head coach and the typical good game to the quarterback because I was already over there. Then I saw our graduate assistant and he asked me if I was alright.  I said, ‘Yeah, I just need to get off the field. I think I broke my foot. So they carried me off and that was it. I knew at that point my career here was over.”

After having a screw surgically implanted in his foot, Bonner said he expects to be ready to ‘pursue other opportunities’ by January.

Coach Logan Bonner?

While Bonner works through his rehab, he plans to be a staple on the Aggie sidelines at practice and in games.

“I know that there’s no next year for me here but there’s a legacy that we could build off of for the guys that are staying here,” Bonner said when asked about his involvement with the team moving forward. “My job is to help them out and be a resource that Coop (Legas) and Levi (Williams) can turn to because I have a lot of experience. If they need help, that’s what I’m here for.”

“I’ll be around, being a good guy supporting the team. I love all these guys on the team and I think they work really hard,”

Bonner wraps up his collegiate career with 33 starts, 18 with the Aggies, and 42 appearances. As an Aggie he completed 60 percent of his passing attempts, logged 42 passing touchdowns and threw for 4381 yards. In his first season with USU, Bonner led Utah State to the programs first Mountain West Conference Championship with a 46-13 blowout of San Diego State last December. Bonner plans to graduate in December with a Master’s Degree in sports management.
