Weber State Football Enters Top 10 Of FCS Coaches Poll

SALT LAKE CITY – The Weber State football team entered the top 10 of the FCS Coaches poll following a victory over the UC Davis Aggies.
Weber State defeated UC Davis on Saturday, September 24, 17-12.
On Monday, September 26, the Wildcats jumped five spots in the Coaches poll and are now ranked No. 7 in the FCS.
Weber State’s victory over UC Davis also moved the Wildcats’ record to 4-0 to start the 2022 season. It’s the first time that Weber State has started 4-0 in 24 years. The last time the Wildcats started this well was in 1998.

Weber State improves to 4-0
Weber State’s game against UC Davis got started with a 35-yard field goal by the Aggies, taking a 3-0 lead less than two minutes into the ballgame. Later in the first quarter, Bronson Barron found Josh Davis for a 16-yard touchdown to give Weber State their first lead of the game, 7-3 with 3:53 remaining in the opening period.
Dontae McMillan found the end zone on a six-yard run to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 14-3 with 13:46 to play in the first half. UC Davis made a 41-yard field goal midway through the second quarter and Weber State held a 14-6 lead at the break.

Coming out of halftime, Weber State made a 23-yard field goal to push their lead to 17-6 with 9:21 remaining in the third quarter. The Aggies scored their only touchdown of the game with 5:33 left in the third when Miles Hastings found C.J. Hutton for a 19-yard score. Weber’s lead was trimmed to 17-12 after UC Davis failed their two-point conversion attempt.
Bronson Barron completed 20 of his 30 pass attempts for 201 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Josh Davis finished with 20 carries for 98 yards, along with one catch for a 16-yard touchdown. McMillan recorded six carries for 52 yards and a score. Jacob Sharp and Haze Hadley each caught six passes to lead the receiver group, while Ty MacPherson added five receptions for 70 yards.

Weber State this season
During the first four weeks of the season, the Wildcats have earned big wins, including one over in-state and FBS foe Utah State. Weber State’s win over UC Davis resulted in a season-opening victory in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats have emerged victorious in 21 of their last 23 road games in conference action.
Jay Hill’s squad is also ranked No. 8 in the FCS in the Stats Perform poll.
The Wildcats will have a bye week before returning to action in early October.
Weber State’s next game is at home against the Eastern Washington Eagles on October 8 at 6 p.m. (MDT). The matchup with Eastern Washington will be Weber State’s Homecoming game and its second contest in Big Sky play. The Eagles are currently ranked No. 18.
