PROVO, Utah – True freshman edge rusher Logan Fano was one of the star newcomers for BYU football in spring practices. Through the first week of spring ball, the former four-star recruit from Timpview High School was already emerging as a potential starter for the Cougars.

Then during week three of practice, he was not participating. The reason? An injury.

Last week, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake, when asked by KSL Sports, explained that Fano was out for the remainder of spring due to an injury. However, the seventh-year head coach didn’t provide details on the injury or a timeline on when he would return, citing a team policy that doesn’t get into the specifics unless season-ending.

Logan Fano suffered an ACL injury

On Tuesday, Fano gave insight into the injury, announcing that he suffered an ACL injury.

“For everyone asking, I’ve injured my ACL and will be getting surgery soon. Thank you for all the continued love and support, I’ll be back ready to go. Logan 2.0 is OTW (on the way)! GO COUGS! (I won’t be answering questions at this time),” wrote Fano.

If Fano misses the 2022 season, he could use this year as a redshirt and still have four years of eligibility remaining in his BYU career. A 6-foot-4, 225-pound outside edge prospect, Fano signed with BYU over Oklahoma, Utah, and Washington during the 2021 recruiting class.

He appeared poised to provide an immediate spark to a BYU defense looking to create more havoc this fall.

Fano’s path to BYU Football

After signing, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Antonio, Texas. Then, this past January, he enrolled at BYU, with 2022 being his first season with the program.

When Kalani Sitake was hired as BYU’s head coach in 2016, Sitake offered Fano a scholarship when he was in eighth grade. Fano committed shortly after the offer but opened up his recruitment when more schools started to recruit him. But ultimately, Fano came back to the strong relationship he always had with Sitake and BYU defensive coordinator Ilaisa Tuiaki.
