SALT LAKE CITY – Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady announced on social media that he is going to return for his 23rd NFL season with the Buccaneers.

Tom Brady made the announcement on Twitter on Sunday evening.

“These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” Brady tweeted. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business. LFG.”

Reports surfaced late in January that Brady was going to retire. He announced his retirement on his personal Instagram account on February 1.

During his 22 seasons, Brady won seven Super Bowl championships, five Super Bowl MVP awards, three regular-season MVPs, and is the NFL’s record holder for the most touchdown passes (624) and most passing yards (84,250).

The 44-year-old led Tampa Bay to a Super Bowl title in 2021 and took the team to an NFC South Division Championship this past season before losing to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL Playoffs.

“I have always believed the sport of football is an “all-in” proposition – If a 100% competitive commitment isn’t there, you won’t succeed, and success is what I love most about our game,” Brady wrote in his retirement IG post. “There is a physical, mental, and emotional challenge EVERY single day that has allowed me to maximize my highest potential. And I have tried my very best these past 22 years. There are no shortcuts to success on the field or in life.”

His post ended with, “This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.”
