SALT LAKE CITY – Ex-Seattle Seahawks and current free agent linebacker Bobby Wagner commented on his release days after getting let go by the only NFL team he’s played for.

The former Utah State standout was released by Seattle on Tuesday, March 8. The move was seen as a money-saving, salary cap-related transaction.

According to ESPN, the linebacker was slated to count more than $20 million towards Seattle’s salary cap in 2022 and none of his money was guaranteed.

Shortly after his release, Wagner shared gratitude for his time with the Seahawks.

“Thank you Seattle for everything. It will forever be my home,” the eight-time Pro Bowler tweeted.

Two days later, Wagner further commented on his release and mentioned that he wasn’t informed of the decision by the Seahawks organization.

“Crazy part about all this. I played there for 10 years & I didn’t even hear it from them that I wasn’t coming back,” Wagner posted on Twitter.

A day before reports of his release surfaced, Wagner tweeted about his former teammate Richard Sherman, “Sherm a prophet.”

Sherman, a former Seahawks star and current member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was released by Seattle a few seasons ago in a similar fashion.

Wagner’s former teammate responded with a quote from the movie, “The Dark Knight.”

“You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain,” Sherman tweeted.

Teams Interested in Bobby Wagner

Since his release, a significant market of teams has developed for Wagner, according to Jordan Schultz.

Some of the teams reportedly interested in adding the All-Pro linebacker via free agency include:

  • Miami Dolphins
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • Denver Broncos
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
