BYU Football Remains Among Top Teams For Five-Star Recruit

PROVO, Utah – BYU football is still in the mix for five-star recruit Cormani McClain.
McClain, a 2023 recruit, released a new top schools list from five teams, which BYU was part of last November, to a top eight. The 6-foot-1.5, 165-pound prospect from Lakeland, Florida, added defending National Champion Georgia, Michigan, and Oregon to his top school’s list that featured BYU, Alabama, Ohio State, and in-state programs Florida and Miami. McClain shared his top eight with On3.com.

McClain is rated as the No. 3 overall recruit in the country for the 2023 class by the industry-standard 247Sports Composite ratings.

The change in McClain’s top school’s list comes on the heels of an unofficial visit to see the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.
Cormani McClain has made two trips to see BYU football in person
McClain first came in contact with BYU last year during a summer camp. McClain shined at BYU’s camp as a five-star prospect, immediately receiving a scholarship offer from BYU coaches. McClain then made another unofficial visit during the 2021 football season when he and his Lake Gibson High School teammates made the trip to Provo in November to see BYU take on Idaho State from the FCS ranks.
During his visit, members of the BYU ROC had signs that greeted McClain and his teammates, stating, “We want Cormani!” One of the signs even made its way to the big screen during BYU’s blowout victory over the Bengals.

McClain’s wide receiver teammate, Daidren Zipperer (class of 2023) received a scholarship offer from BYU shortly after that unofficial trip to BYU. None of the other schools in McClain’s top eight schools have offered his Lake Gibson teammates.
During the Idaho State game, the other Lake Gibson visitors were 2023 linebacker Dontay Joyner and 2024 running back D’Marius Rucker. Joyner and Rucker have not reported offers from BYU as of February 7.
McClain finished his junior year at Lake Gibson with 29 tackles, six interceptions, 14 pass deflections, two tackles for loss, one fumble recovery.
