The dunk was one of two slams by Whiteside during the first 12 minutes of action.
The center continued to roll in the second quarter.
Whiteside took advantage of the lack of size in Detroit’s frontcourt and repeatedly attacked former Jazzman and current Pistons forward Trey Lyles.
At halftime, Utah owned a 61-48 lead.
Whiteside went to the locker room with a team-high 18 points on 9-12 field goals. He added nine rebounds, one steal, and two blocks in 18 minutes on the hardwood.
