BYU Football To Wear Repeat Uniform Combination Against UAB

PROVO, Utah – With the news official that BYU football will play UAB in the 2021 Independence Bowl, the details of the game start to come into focus. One of those hammered-out details is the uniform combination BYU will wear.

For the first time in 2021, BYU football will wear a repeat uniform combination. The Cougars have 26 different uniform combinations, wearing 12 different looks in all of their regular season games. But they opted to roll with a look they already wore earlier this year.
That lucky repeat combo is the “Midnight Virgil.”
BYU donned this uniform in their Senior Day win against Idaho State on November 6. Seniors such as Uriah Leiataua call it “The best uni combo!”
The Midnight Virgil combo features the traditional navy blue uniform with white pants.
Where the “Virgil” comes into play is on the helmet. BYU will wear a navy blue helmet and feature a gray/nickel facemask.
During the 1960s, when former All-American Virgil Carter was playing at QB, BYU football wore helmets that featured a gray facemask.

at Utah State – White helmet with royal blue decals and “Giff” facemask, white jersey, royal blue pants (Win, 34-20)
BOISE STATE – All-Navy Blue (Loss, 17-26)
at Baylor – Navy helmet, white jersey, navy pants; Sailor Coug logo on the back of the helmet (Loss, 24-38)
at Washington State – All-white uniform with navy blue numbers, stripes, and decals (Win, 21-19)
IDAHO STATE – “Midnight Virgil” with navy blue helmet featuring gray facemask; white pants, navy blue jersey (Win, 59-14)
at Georgia Southern – “Royal Sitake” – Royal helmet, white jersey, white pants (Win, 34-17).
at USC – “Royal Oreo”; Royal helmet, white helmet, royal pants (Win, 35-31)
