PROVO, Utah – BYU football extended a scholarship offer to Snow College defensive back Keionte Scott on Monday. Scott announced the offer on his personal social media channels.

After A Great Phone call with @jernarogilford I am blessed to say that I have received an offer to Brigham Young University,” wrote Scott.

Keionte Scott high school career

This is Scott’s first year with the Snow College program. Scott graduated from Helix High School in San Diego in the class of 2020, where he shined on the offensive side of the ball. For Helix, the same high school that once produced former BYU star Todd Watkins, Scott was a wide receiver and kick returner. He had 563 receiving yards on 36 receptions his senior year.

Scott was named the 2019 Makasi Bowl MVP for a three-touchdown performance in a high school game that features some of the top talents from San Diego and the Inland Empire in California.

Before Helix, Scott prepped at Las Vegas High School and was a teammate with current BYU running back Miles Davis.

Productive JUCO cornerback

Scott is part of a Snow Badgers team currently undefeated with a 7-0 record and ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA National Rankings. NJCAA football was postponed last fall to the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Snow’s official website has Keionte Scott listed at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. He’s played in five games this season and has recorded 19 tackles and two interceptions. Scott’s two interceptions are 10th best in all of JUCO ball this spring.

Similar to the rules that the NCAA incorporated for their student-athletes this academic year amidst the pandemic, all NJCAA athletes have a free year of eligibility this season. Whichever school Scott commits to, he will have five years to play four if he were to enroll at an FBS program in the fall of 2021 or winter of 2022.

Scott’s position coach at Snow is a former BYU defensive back and graduate assistant for the Cougars in Tanner Jacobson. The defensive coordinator for the Badgers is former BYU defensive end Jan Jorgensen, who also was a graduate assistant on Kalani Sitake’s staff before becoming a head coach at Carbon High, then taking over the defense in Ephraim.

Scott and the Snow College Badgers will be in action on Saturday, May 15, to close out the regular season against Oklahoma City college prep program Gordon’s Sports Academy.
