PROVO, Utah – BYU home football games will have new video boards and scoreboards at LaVell Edwards Stadium this fall.

Athletic Director Tom Holmoe announced the upgrades on Wednesday that the project’s funding was all via contributions from one of BYU’s longtime partners, NuSkin.

“Thanks to Nu Skin, LaVell Edwards Stadium will feature two brand new video screens, a new sound system, and new LED ribbon boards for the 2021 football season. NuSkin is funding 100 percent of the stadium upgrade. No athletic or university funds will be used for this project,” said Holmoe.

BYU recently had an “All In” campaign asking fans and donors to help overcome a $20 million financial shortfall. None of the $15 million raised from the campaign will be used on the scoreboard according to Holmoe.

BYU’s last upgrade on the video screens was in 2012. That was the first major upgrade BYU had seen to its scoreboards in 16 years. NuSkin has been a significant contributor to all of BYU’s major renovations to video boards dating back to 1996; the first-year BYU had an instant replay screen.

“Together, we have established a great atmosphere at LaVell Edwards Stadium, and these upgrades will greatly enhance your game day experience. Thank you, Nu Skin, for making this possible. We look forward to seeing all of you in LaVell Edwards Stadium this fall.”

In a statement issued in March, as of right now, BYU anticipates welcoming fans back to LaVell Edwards Stadium for football games in 2021.

Both video boards at the north and south ends of the stadium with be replaced. The current dimensions are 34 by 50 feet, the new dimensions of the south board will be 48 by 131 feet and the north board will be 36 by 72 feet. New LED ribbon boards will also be installed on the north and south ends of the stadium to match the current ribbon board on the east side of the stadium. The north and south ribbon boards are currently four feet tall and will be replaced with 8 feet ribbon boards. A new single-point sound system will replace the old sound system in the north end zone, which will significantly enhance the audio experience for those in attendance.

Last month, the city of Provo voted on the new upgrades to the stadium for a “Minor Project Plan approval.” The city of Provo approved the renovation to take place and construction will begin at LaVell Edwards later in April.
