PROVO, Utah – The latest BYU football commit for the class of 2022 is Weber High athlete Cannon DeVries.

DeVries announced his commitment on social media, where he said, “First off, I want to thank my family and friends who have shown me love and support throughout my life. And I also want to thank the college coaches for believing in me and building relationships throughout my recruiting process. I also want to thank my high school coaches and teammates for pushing me every single day to get better. With that being said, I will be committing to play football at BYU.”

Cannon DeVries commits to BYU

For months, BYU coaches, including Kalani Sitake, were recruiting DeVries. Making the versatile Weber athlete’s commitment a significant addition to BYU’s 2022 recruiting class. DeVries’ recruitment was gaining steam as Power 5 programs started to notice the Weber star who earned 6A First Team honors as a junior.

Listed at 6-foot, 165-pounds, DeVries shined at safety and wide receiver for Weber last season. He also excelled as a return specialist and also saw reps at quarterback in wildcat formations.

DeVries received an offer from BYU earlier this month, days after the Colorado Buffaloes offered the versatile athlete.

“All that kid wants to do is just win,” said Weber defensive coordinator Billy Pluim. “He only knows one speed, and that’s ‘all-out.'”

BYU Football has four commits in the class of 2022

DeVries is the fourth commitment in the class of 2022 for BYU, and he’s the third commit this month, joining Alta’s Maika Kaufusi, Wasatch’s Jarinn Kalama, and long time commit Noah Moeaki from American Fork.

Along with playing football, DeVries plays basketball for Weber, where he was a 1st Team All-Region selection on the hardwood.

National Signing Day for the 2022 recruiting class is on December 15th, 2021. The dead period for recruiting, which has been in effect for a year now (due to COVID-19), ends on May 31st. After the dead period closes, coaches and teams will visit prospects in person and host recruits at camps and other in-person activities.
