SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Basketball fans will get another taste of the Walt Disney World bubble in January. According to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania, the NBA G League is likely to host its 2021 season inside the Orlando campus.

The NBA relaunched it’s 2019-20 season in Orlando after games were suspended in March due to the spreading COVID-19 pandemic, though the remainder of the G League season was canceled.

According to the report, the Utah Jazz affiliate Salt Lake City Stars will be one of 18 G League teams traveling to the Disney bubble to compete in the 12-15 game season.

Stars players will report to Utah by January 19 before traveling to Orlando on January 26. The G League season will begin on February 8 with the postseason concluding in early March.

The NBA completed its season over nearly three months including training camp with teams reporting to Florida in July and the Finals concluding in mid-October.

Who Will Be On The Stars G League Bubble Roster?

Though plans for the season are still in the works, there is some idea of what the Stars roster may look like.

After completing the official roster earlier this month, the Jazz signed a series of free agents that appear destined to play for the Jazz G League affiliate.

Former BYU guard Jake Toolson signed with the Jazz immediately following the NBA draft and was waived on December 18. The Jazz also waived former Stars guard Trevon Bluiett, and rookies Romaro Gill and Tre Scott.

These players signed Exhibit-10 contracts with the Jazz that allow them to be designated to the Stars if no other NBA teams sign them before the G League season.

The roster is likely to include NBA veterans Yogi Ferrell and Malcolm Miller who the Jazz signed and waived just before the beginning of the regular season.

Ferrell has spent four seasons in the NBA between the Brooklyn Nets, Dallas Mavericks, and Sacramento Kings. Miller spent the last three seasons with the Toronto Raptors.

The Jazz will have to choose whether to send second-year two-way forward Jarrell Brantley and rookie two-way guard Trent Forrest to Orlando to join the Stars. Both players have been with the Jazz main roster through the regular season, though neither play has dressed for the games.

Considering the quarantine protocols for players entering and leaving the bubble, recalling a two-way player from Orlando could be a time-consuming affair. Teams may prefer to keep two-way players on their main roster in case of an emergency need.
