BOCA RATON, Florida – The question on everyone’s mind after BYU defeated UCF, did Zach Wilson play his last game with the Cougars?

Wilson laughed when he was asked that question in the postgame press conference and replied via Zoom, “I don’t know yet. I’m going to meet with my family and go through the pros and cons, and we’ll figure it out.”

The expected answer but a kind one from Wilson, who was a team player all season this year. Voted a captain by his teammates, he didn’t take the spotlight away from the 2020 BYU football team, who put the final touches on an 11-1 season. The first 11-win campaign since 2009.

But a decision will have to be made soon.

Zach Wilson NFL Decision could come around New Year’s

Winter conditioning for BYU begins on January 11th for the 2021 season. Still, for now, Wilson will take a break like everyone else for the holidays before making a public decision on his NFL future.

“I’m probably going to enjoy the Christmas break and discuss with coaches and discuss with my family and figure out what’s best,” Wilson said after a career-high 425-yard performance against UCF. “You know, obviously, it probably has to be before the New Year at some point. We’ll just see from now until the New Year.”

Wilson, who was already a rising NFL Draft prospect for the 2021 class, likely improved his stock even more by the Offensive MVP night he had that saw him account for five of BYU’s touchdowns. The talk now around Wilson is that he could be the No. 2 QB selected after Trevor Lawrence from Clemson, who is viewed as the No. 1 prospect in April’s draft.

Wilson finished the 2020 season with 3,692 passing yards, 33 touchdown passes, and only three interceptions. Before the season, you’d be hard-pressed to find articles or buzz about Zach Wilson being an NFL Draft prospect outside of us here at KSL Sports.

Now Wilson is one of the hottest prospects in the 2021 class, displaying accuracy and ball placement that has him soaring up mock drafts. The interest from NFL teams is palpable. Two San Francisco 49er scouts were on hand here in Boca Raton, sitting in the endzone, to watch the star BYU quarterback turn UCF inside and out.
