Oregon Remains On Top Of Pac-12 Power Rankings After Impressive Win

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Oregon Ducks lived up to the preseason hype and remain on top of the KSL Sports Pac-12 Power Rankings.

The Ducks beat the Stanford Cardinal, 35-14 in their season opener. The USC Trojans needed a massive comeback to beat Arizona State but they remained at the top of the Pac-12 South power rankings.

Here is the KSL Sports Pac-12 Power Rankings ahead of the second week of the 2020 season.

North Division

1. No. 11 Oregon Ducks (1-0)

Previous Result: Beat Stanford, 35-14 at home

Recap: The Ducks were impressive in their season opening win over the Cardinal. Stanford scored first before Oregon dropped 28 unanswered points. Tyler Shough threw for 227 yards, one touchdown and one interception in his first career start. C.J. Verdell ran for 105 yards and one TD.

2. California Golden Bears (0-0)

Previous Result: Game Canceled

Recap: The Golden Bears’ game was canceled due to one positive COVID-19 case. They also didn’t have enough players to field a team due to contact tracing.

Next Up: @ Arizona State Sun Devils (0-1) on Saturday, November 14 at 8:30 p.m. MT on ESPN2

3. Washington Huskies (0-0)

Previous Result: Game Canceled

Recap: The Huskies game was canceled due to California having a positive COVID-19 case and not having enough players to fulfill the requirements to play due to contact tracing.

4. Washington State Cougars (1-0)

Previous Result: Beat Oregon State, 38-28 on the road

Recap: Washington State picked up a nice win in Nick Rolovich’s debut as the Cougars head coach. The Cougars had a 18-14 lead entering the fourth quarter but held off the Beavers in the final period. Freshman Jayden de Laura threw for 227 yards, ran for 43 yards and accounted for three touchdowns, two passing and one rushing. Travell Harris had 7 receptions for 107 yards and two TD’s.

5. Stanford Cardinal (0-1)

Previous Result: Lost to No. 11 Oregon, 35-14 on the road

Recap: After scoring first, Stanford couldn’t stop Oregon’s 28-0 run before finding the end zone. Davis Mills was out due to COVID-19 protocols. Jack West started in his place and threw for 154 yards. Tanner McKee also received some reps at QB, finishing with 62 passing yards. Austin Jones racked up 100 yards on 20 carries and 2 touchdowns. Former Brighton wide receiver Simi Fehoko caught three passes for 88 yards.

6. Oregon State Beavers (1-0)

Previous Result: Lost to Washington State, 38-28 at home

Recap: A tough loss at home for Oregon State. Their second half comeback wasn’t enough. Tristan Gebbia passed for 329 yards and one touchdown. Jermar Jefferson was outstanding with 21 carries for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns.

South Division

1. No. 20 USC Trojans (1-0)

Previous Result: Beat Arizona State, 28-27 at home

Recap: USC trailed ASU, 27-14 with just over two minutes remaining. Bru McCoy caught a deflected pass in the end zone to trim the deficit to 27-21. The Trojans recovered the onside kick and Kedon Slovis threw the game-winning touchdown to Drake London. Slovis finished with 381 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. London caught 8 passes for 125 yards and one TD. Amon-Ra St. Brown hauled in seven receptions for 100 yards.

2. Arizona State Sun Devils (0-1)

Previous Result: Lost to No. 20 USC, 28-27 on the road

Recap: After leading for most of the game, Arizona State allowed two touchdowns in less than two minutes, allowing the Trojans to erase a 13-point lead. Jayden Daniels had 134 passing yards and one touchdown, while running the ball 11 times for 111 yards. DeaMonte Trayanum ran the ball 12 times for 84 yards and 2 TD’s.

3. Utah Utes (0-0)

Previous Result: Game Canceled

Recap: The Utes’ season opener against Arizona was canceled after the team had positive COVID-19 cases. Their game against UCLA has been pushed back to Saturday night.

4. Colorado Buffaloes (1-0)

Previous Result: Beat UCLA, 48-42 at home

Recap: A great debut for head coach Karl Dorrell. Colorado jumped out to a 35-14 lead at the halftime break. Despite scoring just 13 second half points, the Buffs allowed the Bruins to score 28 points in the final 30 minutes. Sam Noyer threw for 257 yards and one touchdown, while racking up 64 rushing yards and one TD. Jarek Broussard had a tremendous game filling in for Alex Fontenot, rushing for 187 yards on 31 carries and 3 touchdowns.

5. UCLA Bruins (0-1)

Previous Result: Lost to Colorado, 48-42 on the road

Recap: The Bruins trailed big in the first half but their second half comeback wasn’t enough. Dorian Thompson-Robinson racked up 412 yards of total offense, 303 passing and 109 passing, along with 5 total touchdowns, 4 passing and one rushing. Greg Dulcich had 4 receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown.
