19 Years Later: Former Utah Jazz Forward Carlos Boozer Returns To College, Completes Degree

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah Jazz forward and NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer announced that after nearly two decades he finished college and received a degree from Duke University.

Boozer announced the news with an Instagram post on Tuesday, September 8.

“After Leaving School Following My Junior Year At @dukeuniversity To Follow My Dreams Of Becoming An NBA Player, I Left With 3 Classes To Complete To Finish My Degree!!!” Boozer posted. “Well Guess What, After 19 Years And 2 Amazing Summer School Sessions This Summer, I’M FINALLY A DUKE GRADUATE!!!! Shout Out To My Family, Friends, Teammates, Classmates & Professors!! And One Time For My Bro @academicking Making Sure I Had Everything I Needed!!! Thank You Guys For Riding With Me Along My Academic Journey!!! Stay Tuned.. Got More To Do…. #HOLDAT.”

According to his social media post, Boozer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Carlos Boozer’s NBA Career

After helping the Blue Devils win a national championship in 2001, the former Jazzman left Duke early to enter the NBA Draft in 2002. He was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers during the second round of that summer’s draft.

Following his sophomore season in the league, Boozer signed an offer sheet with Utah, which wasn’t matched by Cleveland, and he became a member of the Jazz.

The forward went on to play six seasons in Salt Lake City.

Boozer was selected as a NBA All-Star in back-to-back seasons (2006-07, 2007-08) during his time with the Jazz. Following the 2007-08 season, he was named a member of the All-NBA Third Team.

After the 2009-10 season, Boozer sent to the Chicago Bulls via a sign-and-trade with Utah.

During his time in a Jazz uniform, Boozer averaged 19.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 354 games.

The forward played in the Windy City until 2014.

Boozer’s last season in the NBA came as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers from 2014-15.
