Salt Lake City Stars Name Nathan Peavy New Head Coach

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Salt Lake City Stars named Nathan Peavy their new head coach.

Peavy has spent the last three years as an assistant coach for the Stars, the G-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz.

The 35-year-old coach has helped the Stars to two playoff berths. He helped develop current Jazz players like Tony Bradley, Royce O’Neale, Rayjon Tucker and plenty more.

“Nathan has grown tremendously over the past three years due to his work ethic and devotion to his craft. He brings a wealth of knowledge from his playing career and has a passion for teaching the game,” said Bart Taylor, director of scouting for the Utah Jazz and vice president of basketball operations for the Stars. “He has been a pivotal part of establishing a solid foundation for the organization and is absolutely the right person to be the next leader of the team as we move forward.”

Peavy replaces Martin Schiller, who was last season’s G-League coach of the year. The new Stars coach said he’s excited to continue to push the team in right direction.

“I feel thankful and honored to continue coaching this team now as a head coach,” Peavy said.  “I’m just proud of being a part of the foundation that we’ve been building here for the last few years.”

Before the G-League season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Stars led the Western Conference with a 30-12 record.

As Stars head coach, Peavy is responsible not only for his own team, but also for developing players the Jazz designate onto the Stars roster.

“We work together just to make sure that we’re all on the same page and that we as the Stars staff are aligned with the Jazz views and what they need as a team,” Peavy said.

Before coaching, Peavy played international basketball in both Germany and Peurto Rico.

“I’m honored to be named the new head coachof the Salt Lake City Stars,” said Peavy. “I’m looking forward to building on the momentum we’ve created to help the Stars compete at the highest level on the court while continuing to help develop players and staff members for the Jazz, and to have a positive impact in our community. I’m grateful for the opportunity and eager to get started on preparations for the 2020-21 season.”
