Former Orem Tiger Seals Chargers’ Win Over Browns With INT

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Orem High and current Chargers defensive back Alohi Gilman sealed Los Angeles’ win over the Cleveland Browns with a big interception in the end zone.

The Browns hosted the Chargers at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, October 9.

With 2:55 left in the fourth quarter, Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett attempted to throw a potential game-winning touchdown pass and forced the ball into the end zone, where it was picked off by Gilman.

Los Angeles maintained its 30-28 lead after the former Tiger standout’s pick.

Last season, Gilman recorded his first career interception after picking off Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Los Angeles held on for a 30-28 victory. Gilman finished the game with seven total tackles, four solo tackles, one pass breakup, and an interception.

This season, Gilman has recorded 10 total tackles, six solo tackles, one pass breakup, and a pick.

With the win, the Chargers improved their record to 3-2 this season, including 2-1 on the road.

Los Angeles’ next game is at home against the Denver Broncos on Monday, October 17 at 6:15 p.m. (MDT) on ESPN.

Prior to his college career at Notre Dame, Gilman played high school football for the Orem Tigers in Orem, Utah and Kahuku High School in Laie, Hawaii.

During his time in South Bend, the safety played in 26 games for the Irish. He recorded 169 total tackles, 91 solo tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery.

After his college career, the Chargers picked the former Tigers and Irish safety with the 186th overall pick during the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

During his NFL career, Gilman has posted 54 total tackles, 36 solo tackles, two interceptions, and two pass breakups in 30 games played.
