SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake forward Jefferson Savarino scored the opening goal of the match in Venezuala’s dominating 4-0 win against the United Arab Emirates.
Savarino started for his home country and was fast to make an impression when his run off the right wing was picked out by fellow winger Yeferson Soteldo in the 18th minute. Soteldo played a wonderful ball onto the feet of Savarino who flicked the ball past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Savarino was joined by Sergio Córdova to represent Venezuela. Córdova came off the bench in the 66th minute but was unable to score. Savarino was replaced in the 78th minute.
The Savarino goal was just his second international goal for Venezuala in his career. Previously, Savarino opened his international scoring against the USMNT on June 9, 2019, in a friendly at Nippert Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bearcats college football team.
Other Real Salt Lake players on international include Braian Ojeda who started and played all 90 minutes for Paraguay in their 0-0 draw against Morocco. Bryan Oviedo started at left-back but was substituted in the 65th minute.
U.S. under-20 star Diego Luna will take on Paraguay in the Revelations Cup later this evening while Diego Rubio is expected to start for Guatemala against Honduras also later this evening.
Real Salt Lake next returns to Major League Soccer schedule this upcoming Saturday evening when they travel to Dignity Health Sports Park for a date with the LA Galaxy.
With just two games remaining, Real Salt Lake will likely need to win both games to secure a playoff position. A loss will likely eliminate all chances while a win and a draw will require other teams to pull their weight on decision day.
