SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau will play alongside Max Homa during the opening day of the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Golf Course on Thursday.

Finau and Homa will square off against an International pairing of Taylor Pendrith and Mito Pereira in the final foursome match of the day.

The most mouth-watering battle of the opening day will occur when Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama take on Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele in the opening match of the day.

Other battles include Sunjae Im and Corey Conners against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, Tom Kim and KH Lee versus Cam Young and Collin Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler, and Sam Burns versus Si Woo Kim and Cam Davis.

Interestingly, both teams consist of a number of rookies – the US has 5 rookies on its roster. In comparison, the International team has 8 and a total of 10 rookies will be in action on Thursday to begin the tournament.

The first match to be played between Scott and Matsuyama versus Cantlay and Schauffele will tee off at 11:05 a.m. while Finau and Homa will be the last group off the tee at 11:53 a.m.

Weather Forecast & Bench Players

The forecast is ominous ahead of the opening day as there is a 20% chance of thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and 15 miles per hour winds with gusts of up to 25 miles per hour are also expected out of the northwest.

Two team members from each team will not be in action on Thursday. For the international team, Sebastian Munoz and Christiaan Bezuidenhout will sit while for the United States Billy Horschel and Kevin Kisner will be on the bench.

Kisner is the only player out of the four who will not participate on Thursday with any Presidents Cup history. He went 1-0-1 alongside Phil Mickelson in foursome matches in 2017.

The Golf Channel and Peacock will have the action beginning at 11 a.m. and will conclude their coverage at 4 p.m. following the final match.
