SALT LAKE CITY – Two locals NFL players landed in the top 50 spots on the NFL’s Top 100 players list for the upcoming 2022 season.

The league’s Top 100 list was revealed over recent days as a countdown to the start of a new season.

This season, two linebackers that played college football in the state of Utah were recognized among the NFL’s best players, former BYU and current San Francisco star Fred Warner and ex-Utah State and new Los Angeles Rams defender Bobby Wagner.

Warner was honored as the NFL’s No. 47 ranked player and Wagner arrived on the list at No. 29.

Three of Wagner’s new teammates in Los Angeles were honored as top 10 players. Seven-time Super Bowl champion and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady received the top spot on the NFL’s list.

About Fred Warner

Prior to his time in the NFL, Warner played college football at BYU.

During his four seasons in Provo, the linebacker recorded 264 total tackles, 158 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, seven interceptions, 13 pass breakups, and two touchdowns.

Warner was selected by the Niners with the No. 70 overall pick during the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was selected to the Pro Bowl and honored as a first-team All-Pro in 2020.

In his four seasons with San Francisco, the former BYU standout has posted 504 tackles, 332 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, three interceptions, 25 pass breakups, and one touchdown in 64 games.

Last season, Warner and the Niners had a 10-7 record and reached the NFC Conference Championship game, where they fell 20-17 to the eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers open their 2022 schedule on the road against the Chicago Bears on September 11.

About Bobby Wagner

After a college career at Utah State, the Southern California native was selected by the Seahawks during the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Wagner helped Seattle win Super Bowl XLVIII in 2013. Last season, Wagner recorded 170 total tackles, 93 solo tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, one interception, and five pass breakups. The former USU standout was selected to his eighth consecutive Pro Bowl in 2021.

After spending the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seahawks, Wagner joined Seattle’s NFC West rival on March 31. The six-time All-Pro player had been released by the Seahawks on March 8.

During his 10-year career, Wagner has posted 1,383 total tackles, 818 solo tackles, 23.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, 11 interceptions, 60 pass breakups, and one touchdown in 150 games.

Los Angeles finished the regular season with a 12-5 record before its postseason run. The Rams beat the Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and San Francisco 49ers to reach Super Bowl LVI. Los Angeles beat the Cincinnati Bengals to win the Super Bowl. The Ram begin their 2022 slate and title defense against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, September 8.
