TAMPA, Florida – The weather forecast always plays a role in any college football game. But for a team traveling from the west to the southeast, it becomes a bigger storyline.

That’s the case for BYU as they prepare to open up their 2022 season on the road against the USF Bulls in Tampa, Florida.

No. 25 BYU will face the Bulls at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday, September 3. The game kicks off at 4 p.m. (ET)/2 p.m. (MT) on ESPNU and KSL NewsRadio.

Early projections for the weather forecast in Tampa, Florida, on September 3 call for “rain showers in the morning with scattered thunderstorms arriving in the afternoon.”

That weather forecast comes from

The high temperature is projected at 90 degrees with a low of 77 at night.

Then there’s the humidity. Before the start of camp, BYU considered turning up the heat in the Indoor Practice Facility to simulate Tampa’s humidity. They didn’t end up going through with that decision.

By comparison, for September 3, the humidity in Provo is projected at 28%. For Tampa that same day? 72% humidity with an “extreme” UV Index.

So apply sunscreen for those of you BYU fans who plan to attend the Cougars season opener in their final Independent tour.

Kalani Sitake isn’t concerned about the weather forecast in Florida

BYU returns one of the most experienced teams in college football this season. With elements hotter than they are used to, BYU coach Kalani Sitake is okay digging into some of his depth. But he’s making that move based on football decisions, not the heat.

“Depth is always going to be big for us,” said Sitake. “In this game, we’re not worried about the elements, we just want to make sure that we have the right guys on the field and that we’re communicating well.”

KSL Sports will be on location in Tampa for BYU versus USF with a television pregame show on KSL 5 TV and an extended radio pregame on KSL NewsRadio, all beginning at 10 a.m.
