On a rehab assignment from the Los Angeles Angels, infielder David Fletcher makes a throw to first base during the Salt Lake Bees game against Tacoma on Saturday, July 23.

SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake Bees infielders Jake Palomaki and David Fletcher combined for a spectacular putout against the Tacoma Rainiers on Saturday night.

The Bees hosted Tacoma at Smith’s Ballpark in the second game of a three-game set on Saturday, July 23.

Second baseman Jake Palomaki began the play on the left side of the bag thanks to a defensive shift. Rainier Trey Amburgey lined a bouncer up the middle, forcing the umpire to hop over the hard hit ground ball. Palomaki ranged to his left, diving to smother the ball.

Immediately realizing he didn’t have a play, Palomaki used a right-handed, behind the back no-look flip to shortstop David Fletcher who fired across the diamond to retire Amburgey at first.

A simple 4-6-3 putout if you’re scoring from home.

Salt Lake went on to beat the Rainiers 5-3 to even the series, setting up Sunday night’s game as the rubber match in an uncommon three-game series.

The Bees will be back in action at Smith’s Ballpark on Sunday, July 24 wrapping up a three game series against the Tacoma Rainiers. Purchase tickets to see the Bees play at Listen to voice of the Bees Steve Klauke and all Salt Lake Bees games on
