SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau has positioned himself nicely on the 3M Open leaderboard ahead of the weekend with a bogey-free three-under-par second round of 68.
He sits three shots behind Emiliano Grillo, the current leader.
Tony Finau’s Second Round
Finau began on the 10th tee box this morning and wasted no time as he chipped in for a birdie just off the green on the 11th. The ball was positioned in uncomfortable rough but Finau was good enough to utilize his soft hands and find the bottom of the cup.

Finau then found the bottom of the cup from 35 and a half feet on the 17th green when he played 5 feet of break and buried the birdie, much to the delight of the local gallery.
The back nine, which is usually the opening front nine, was played to par until Finau got to the par 4 7th when he capitalized on a beautiful downhill putt from 21 feet and made his third and final birdie of the day.
Tony Finau By The Numbers
It was an impressive display of composure and control from Finau who rarely got himself into any danger out on the golf course this morning.
Finau has found the fairway 71.43% of the time and is converting his fairway finders into greens in regulation which he is accomplishing at 72.22% of the time.
The leader, Grillo, shot a six-under-par second round to climb the leaderboard and take control of the tournament. However, overnight leaders Scott Piercy and Sunjae Im, are yet to tee off on Friday and only find themselves four shots back of Grillo at six-under-par.
Finau will play the weekend and will likely contend for his third PGA Tour victory. His previous two wins came at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open and the 2021 Northern Trust. He waited five years between tournament victories.
Tee times and pairings ahead of the weekend at the 3M Open are yet to be announced.
