SALT LAKE CITY – A Pittsburgh Maulers player was on the losing end of a big hit in multiple ways during the ninth week of the 2022 USFL season.

The Maulers faced the Philadelphia Stars on Sunday, June 12.

Near the end of the contest, the Stars punted the ball to the Maulers. Isiah Hennie returned the ball after gaining possession of the pigskin at Pittsburgh’s 47-yard line.

As he made his way down the field, Hennie suffered a crushing hit from former Salt Lake Stallions and current Stars safety Cody Brown.

After getting up from Brown’s tackle, Hennie walked on the sideline without his helmet on and spit one of his teeth into his glove.

After the game, Hennie said the tooth he lost was one of his wisdom teeth.

Brown and the Stars went on to beat Hennie and the Maulers, 17-16. Brown finished with five total tackles and two solo tackles. Hennie had two catches for 11 yards. He also returned two punts for a total of four yards.

With the result, Philadelphia improved its record to 6-3 this season and Pittsburgh fell to 1-8.

Cody Brown with the Salt Lake Stallions

Prior to playing in the USFL, Brown played for the Stallions before the Alliance of American Football league folded after eight weeks in 2019.

During his time with Salt Lake, Brown recorded 37 tackles, five pass breakups, and one interception.

“It was a good experience, and another opportunity. It served its purpose for the most part. It was good to continue to play the sport you love,” Brown said of his time in the AAF. “It was tough as far as trying to figure out what the next step was. We had two more weeks, so nobody was thinking those things through at that moment. They told us right before we went to practice that we had to find our own way home, and that was our last night in the hotel.”

After playing in the AAF, Brown spent time with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.
