PROVO, Utah – BYU football has remained active in the Transfer Portal, and the latest addition is Vanderbilt DB Gabe Jeudy.

Jeudy, who took an official visit to BYU earlier this month, announced his commitment to the Cougars on Monday.

Jeudy started in 13 games during his three years with the Commodores, with 10 of those starts coming last season in a schedule that included games against National Champion Georgia and high-powered offenses Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Last season, the three-star prospect in the class of 2019 had one interception and it came against the UConn Huskies. The interception led Vandy coach Clark Lea to celebrate with Jeudy by headbutting him while his starting corner still had a helmet on. Lea, a former fullback during his playing days, said after the game, “In my heart, I’m still a fullback.”

Off the field, Jeudy is an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar and member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Jeudy’s success in the classroom at Vanderbilt allowed for the Charlotte, North Carolina native to graduate in three years. He will complete his degree at Vanderbilt in May.

Once graduated from Vanderbilt later this spring, Jeudy will be eligible immediately at BYU, with three years of eligibility remaining.

Since he entered the NCAA’s Transfer Portal last November, Jeudy-Lally has reported offers from Buffalo, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa State, Miami (OH), and Purdue.

The defensive back position is where BYU has looked to enhance its roster as they prepare for life in the Big 12 Conference in 2023. In February, BYU signed four defensive backs from the high school ranks.

Last fall, Jeudy said a significant area of focus in his game at Vanderbilt was being a press-man cornerback. That’s where BYU wants to have the depth necessary to play press-man against Power Five schedules.

Jeudy joins a BYU football cornerback room that features D’Angelo Mandell and Kaleb Hayes atop the depth chart. After those two seniors, there is room for Jeudy to immediately slide into the two-deep as the Cougars have seen two players medically retire in recent weeks in Keenan Ellis and Shamon Willis.
