PROVO, Utah – The BYU basketball team ended a four game losing streak with an overtime road win over Loyola Marymount 83-82.
Seneca Knight made a free throw with one second left in overtime to get the Cougars a much needed win.
Freshman Fousseyni Traore led the Cougars in scoring with 19 points and Te’Jon Lucas added a season high nine assists.
Below are my three observations.
1. Te’Jon Lucas scoring the ball
BYU is a better basketball team when Te’Jon Lucas is scoring the ball.
He’s one of two players scoring in double figures this season and the Cougars will take as much scoring as they can get from him.
Welcome back Te’Jon Lucas!
This is a different team when he’s scoring the ball. @kslsports #BYU

Te’Jon scored 17 points with 11 of them coming in the second half.
His absence against Gonzaga really highlighted his importance to this team.
2. Gideon George three-point shooting
The Cougars desperately need players besides Alex Barcello to make three-point shots and Gideon George has answered the call the last two games.
Against Loyola Marymount he went 4 for 7 from deep.
Gideon George has improved so much on the offensive end over the course of this season. Giving #BYU some life from beyond the arc against LMU.#BYUHoops @kslsports

George has been awesome since was re-inserted to the starting lineup.
3. BYU basketball assist issues
The weave offense on the perimeter has been under some scrutiny lately.
BYU is averaging less than 14 assists per game which puts them at 137th nationally in that category.
During the four game losing streak they only averaged 10 assists per game.
Ball movement returned against Loyola Marymount to the tune of 20 assists.
It’s no surprise the offense scored 43 points in the second half because they assisted on 12 of 15 made field goals.
A win is a win, and the Cougars needed this one badly.
