SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah women’s basketball forward Jenna Johnson has been named Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.

The Pac-12 announced their weekly honors on Monday, January 17.

Nearly a month without games didn’t cool off Johnson as she averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and two assists in games against the UC Riverside Highlanders and the Stanford Cardinal.

Against UC Riverside on Friday, January 14, Johnson opened the Utes scoring by knocking down her first of three three-point shots. She finished with 18 points and four rebounds against the Highlanders.

Johnson continues to show increased confidence from the perimeter as she set a career high with three triples against UC Riverside and is up to 40.7 percent this season.

Johnson didn’t miss a beat in her first experience with Pac-12 Conference play on Sunday, January 16 against the No. 2 Cardinal. She netted 15 points, three rebounds, one assist and a steal in 28 minutes.

She has led the Utes in scoring seven times in 13 games.

It is the fourth time a Utah player has been named Freshman of the Week as Gianna Kneepkens has also been honored twice.

Utah will be in Arizona to continue Pac-12 play when they travel to Arizona on Jan. 21 and Arizona State on Jan. 23. Tip-off for the contest against the Wildcats is set for 7 p.m. (MDT).
