Lynne Roberts Picks Up Milestone Win For Utah Women’s Basktball
SALT LAKE CITY – After 24 days without a game, the University of Utah women’s basketball team finally got back on the floor in a hastily scheduled 89-48 win over UC Riverside.
Due to last moment scheduling, the Utes hosted the UC Riverside Highlanders at the Jon M. and Karen Huntsman Basketball Facility on Friday, January 14.
With the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal on the schedule in two days and five consecutive postponements, the Utes scrambled to schedule UC Riverside, a game that came together less than 24 hours before it was played.
Offensively, the Utes looked like they hadn’t missed a beat. Where the rust was evident was on the defensive end where missed assignments and poor communication at times gave UC Riverside easy looks.
Coming off the bench for the first time this season, Brynna Maxwell scored 15 points, including a sterling 9-9 from the free throw line.
Continuing her strong play of late, freshman Jenna Johnson went 3-4 from deep on her way to 17 points.
Guard Keilanei Cooper led the Highlanders with 16 points.
The Utes return to the floor on Sunday, January 16 as they welcome in the No. 2 ranked Stanford Cardinal. Tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. (MDT). This game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
