SALT LAKE CITY – When the announcement came down that David Blitzer and Ryan Smith had purchased the Real Salt Lake franchise, fans were ecstatic.
As if that move wasn’t enough, three-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade announced on Twitter that he has also joined the group.

Major League Soccer and RSL announced the ownership change on Wednesday, January 5.
In April 2021, Wade also purchased a minority stake in the Utah Jazz, strengthening his ties to the Utah community after spending 14.5 of his 16 NBA season with the Miami Heat.

It is not known what Wade’s role will be with the franchise but it may be similar to his ambassador role with the Utah Jazz.
RSL is scheduled to begin their 2022 regular season against the Houston Dynamo on the road Sunday, February 27.
