SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Football’s Rose Bowl appearance has given former players reason to reflect on the growth and stability of the program. As Utah prepares to debut in The Granddaddy Of Them All, a handful of alumni has given insight into what it means for them.

“Just huge for this program and these players, especially after the year they had in losing two close teammates and friends!” Current Los Angeles Ram kicker Matt Gay told KSL Sports. “It’s a testament that these players are playing for something bigger than themselves!”

Gay, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recently was announced as a Pro Bowl member following a year in which he broke the NFL record for most consecutive field goals made with 23.

Former Utah quarterback Travis Wilson told KSL Sports that he is “proud of the way this team has handled adversity. [They] played every single game with passion and heart. A team that will have a legacy that will last forever.”

Comments made by Wilson were echoed by a wide receiver that has forever had and will continue to have a place in the hearts of the Utah faithful.

“Simply amazing to see the program continuously grow over the years. I couldn’t be more proud of this group being able to make HISTORY,” Kenneth Scott told KSL Sports.

Current Provo Police Officer and former University of Utah offensive lineman Isaac Asiata gave a transparent quote to KSL Sports detailing his emotions surrounding the upcoming game.

“I’m happy, proud and jealous at the same time. Happy and proud to see the legacy continue and taken to new heights by a group of guys who have sacrificed so much for this moment. Jealous that I wasn’t able to make it there. Couldn’t have happened to a most deserving group of men. Excited for them to be there and be a part of this moment in Utah Football History.”

Utah and Ohio State will kickoff from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on January 1st at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast via ESPN with Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, former Utah alumni Holly Rowe, and Tiffany Blackmon on the call.
