PROVO, Utah – Alex Barcello joined an elite club of BYU basketball players on Thursday night during a West Coast Conference game against Pacific. The senior guard from Chandler, Arizona became the 52nd player in BYU’s history to reach the 1,000-point club.

With three seconds remaining in the first half, Barcello buried a three against the Tigers to secure his 1,000 career points during his BYU career.

Barcello joined the BYU program in 2019 after transferring from the University of Arizona of the Pac-12 Conference. The 6-foot-2 guard has started in every game since Mark Pope became BYU’s head coach.

Entering Thursday night’s game against Westminster, Barcello was averaging a career-high 17.3 points per game.

Barcello is the ninth BYU player in the West Coast Conference era (since 2011) to reach the 1,000-point mark. Two of Barcello’s former teammates are part of that group in Yoeli Childs and TJ Haws.

The all-time leading scorer in BYU basketball history is Tyler Haws, who played three of his four years for BYU in the WCC.
