SALT LAKE CITY- Tony Finau concluded the Mayakoba Classic in Mexico in a tie for 45th and 15 shots off the eventual champion Viktor Hovland.
The 2021 event marked the sixth appearance for Finau at the Mayakoba Classic. Finau had missed the cut on two previous occasions, but his worst finish when he made the cut was a T16 in 2019.
Officially a T45 finish this week for Tony! Was an up and down week, but he put together 4 under par rounds so that is good!✅🔥

Finau’s final round included three opening front-nine birdies and four back-nine bogeys, he also added a pair of birdies on the back-nine to limit the pain. He carded a final-round score of one-under-par, 70.
The tournament marked the first competition for Finau since the middle of October when he participated in The CJ Cup in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was only his second tournament since the famous Ryder Cup victory at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin.

This is the time of the year that the world’s best pick and choose the tournaments they contend for. It is not until early next year that the bigger tournaments begin to trickle into the schedule with the first large tournament of the new season occurring on March 10 when TPC Sawgrass hosts The Players Championship.
Nevertheless, Finau is still contending for silverware in his quest for a third career PGA Tour win.
The tune-up in Mexico last weekend will likely prove valuable for Finau who is scheduled to participate in this week’s Houston Open. Finau has appeared at the Houston Open on five previous occasions with his best finish coming in 2018 & 2020 when he finished in a T24.
Pairings and tee times ahead of the Houston Open are yet to be announced.
