SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre believes that his former teammate and Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has played his last down as a member of Green Bay.

Favre recently discussed the rift between his former team and their current quarterback during an interview with the Wisconsin based radio show Wilde & Tausch.

“I think I know Aaron fairly well,” Favre said of Rodgers. “Honestly I just don’t see him coming back and just saying, ‘All right, let’s just bury the hatchet, whatever caused the rift, and I’m just going to come back and play because I love the guys, I love the Green Bay fans’ — I assume he does — but his rift isn’t with the fans or the players. It’s with the front office. Will he just swallow his pride and come in? Maybe. But I don’t see that happening.”

Favre continued by saying that he hasn’t heard that directly from Rodgers but has a “gut” feeling about the situation.

“If there’s not a trade, my gut tells me that he’d rather sit out than play. That’s just my gut,” Favre said. “There’s no reason for me to say that other than that’s what my gut’s telling me, and I think you guys know Aaron fairly well enough to sort of feel the same way.”

After reports of the rift between the future Hall of Fame QB and the Packers emerged in late April, Favre reached out to Rodgers.

“‘Thanks for checking on me. I’ll touch base with you after all this is over.’ And that was it,” Favre said of his conservation with the Packers QB. “We haven’t talked since.”

The former Green Bay great said that he’d like to see Rodgers stay with the Packers and win another Super Bowl in Wisconsin.

“I’d like to see him win a Super Bowl in Green Bay, another one,” Favre added. “But the thing is, life’s too short, I want him to be happy. He’s been there as long as I was there, and I know what that means, and he’s put up unbelievable numbers. Win another Super Bowl and then do what you want to do, whether it’s keep playing, play somewhere else, whatever. But win one more in Green Bay and go out the way you want to go out. You don’t want to go out this way, whether it’s sit out or play somewhere else.”

Favre said he’s interested to see how the situation plays out between Rodgers and the Packers. However, he isn’t sure the disagreements between the organization and the QB will be resolved.

“It’s going to be interesting what takes places here between now and the start of camp,” Favre said. “But right now I’m not very optimistic.”

Previous Comments by Brett Favre

This isn’t the first time Favre has discussed Rodgers and his fate with the Packers.

After Green Bay drafted former Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Favre said he didn’t believe Rodgers would finish his career with the Packers.

“My gut tells me no,” Favre told Rich Eisen. “I don’t know this for certain, but I guarantee you, it’s got the wheels turning in Aaron’s mind. If that’s the case, then that means there’s a chip on his shoulder toward the organization that otherwise was not there. All he needs is a reason other than this reason to expedite that.”

Similar Situations

In 2005, Rodgers was placed into a situation that’s similar to the one Love is currently in, when the Packers drafted him late in the first round and Favre was still a few years away from retirement. He sat on the sidelines and waited three seasons for the opportunity to take over as the Packers’ starting QB.

Rodgers has three years remaining on his current contract and isn’t set to become an unrestricted free agent until 2024.
