Jazz To Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Throughout Week

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. beginning Monday on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and continue to the celebration throughout the week.
On Monday, the Jazz Jazz will hold a virtual educational workshop for students celebrating MLK Jr. Day. In partnership with the Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Commission and Goldman Sachs, 60 youth will get a lesson about Dr. King’s six principles of non-violence and participate in a STEM coding event.
On Wednesday, guard Jordan Clarkson will make a virtual appearance with eight finalists from the MLK Commission’s license plate art contest.

The contest asked seventh to 12th grade to submit original artwork to determine the official state decal for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. license plate with the theme of “Many Voices, One Utah.”
Last Friday, the Jazz wore Martin Luther King Jr. shooting shirts before their matchup with the Atlanta Hawks, coinciding with Dr. King’s January 15 birthday. The shirts will be worn pregame throughout the week. The shirts read “Now is the time to make justice a reality for all’ from Dr. King’s historic ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.
The Jazz will recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Tuesday against New Orleans with video messages from the Jazz players, singing of the National Anthem by local musician O/B/A, and digital graphics around Vivint Arena.
