Former Utah Signee Caleb Lohner Announces He Is Headed To BYU

PROVO, Utah – Former Wasatch Academy star and Utah basketball signee Caleb Lohner is headed to BYU officially.

Last week, Lohner was released for his National Letter of Intent by Larry Krystkowiak and the University of Utah program. On Friday evening, Lohner made his announcement that he was now a BYU Cougar.

Lohner will be part of BYU’s 2020-21 roster and will be on scholarship this upcoming season. Prior to moving to the state of Utah, Lohner was a standout in the state of Texas at Flower Mound High School where he held offers from Texas, Baylor, and others.

“Caleb Lohner is an incredibly talented young player with a ready-made college body, a deadly stroke and an intense competitiveness that will be a hallmark of his BYU career,” BYU coach Mark Pope said. “He is going to bring a unique persona and swagger to Provo that will endear him to Cougar fans. Caleb has lofty aspirations for his basketball career and a steely determination that will help him reach those goals with his teammates here at BYU.”

Lohner is expected to be the last scholarship addition to BYU’s 2020 recruiting class which also includes Purdue transfer Matt Haarms, Utah Valley guard Brandon Averette, and JUCO transfers Gideon George and Spencer Johnson.

For the last three weeks, reports have been circulating regarding Lohner’s potential transfer to BYU and now it is official. A legacy recruit, Lohner’s father, Matt, played for the BYU Basketball program 1994-96.
